Art lover Dr Abdullah Sani Lecturer sets up own art gallery in Terengganu

Dr Abdullah Sani Kamaluddin is the owner of Ganu D’Art Gallery. He is after all one of the few art enthusiasts in Malaysia who spent his own RM30,000 to set up the first gallery in Kuala Terengganu. Dr Abdullah was born in Batu Buruk in the eastern state was previously engaged as a designer with the State Economic Development Corporation where he decided to set up the gallery as there weren’t any in the state that promoted or exhibited local artists’ works.

Dr Abdullah is a great lover of art where he has been involved for 20 years now and the new gallery will only spur his passion further. So far, he has pretty much been working on his own where he said that he once paid some RM3,000 to rent a hall in a hotel for 3 days to exhibit his paintings. Apart from that, he had also given around RM100,000 from selling his paintings to charity like Perkim (Malaysian Islamic Welfare Organisation) and to orphanages.

He is currently engaged as a lecturer in design with Universiti Malaysia Kelantan in Kota Bahru while he also lectures part-time with University Sultan Zainal Abidin. Dr Abdullah said that since it is so expensive to hold exhibitions, it would be more cost-effective to own his own gallery and the new space along Jalan Sultan Zainal Abidin did the trick for him. with the RM800 per month space, he got his children to help him run the gallery with art priced between RM100 and RM6,000.
