Henry Butcher Art Auctioneers is back with its second installment of Public Art Programmes in 2012

This 7 January 2012, the Henry Butcher Art Auctioneers will be holding the second Public Art Programme entitled ‘An Impression of Malaysian Art: Defining Events & Artist Groups’.
This will be the first of this unique and prestigious series where you will be able to be a part of this
historic event to discuss and address questions in Malaysian Art that encompasses areas like its history, Malaysian artists� and their activities, their contribution to the issues of Malaysia�s nationalism, modernity and identity and the influence of modern pioneers on current Malaysian artists.

This initiative is held by Henry Butcher Art Auctioneers to create awareness for the public to get close and personal with Malaysian Art. The speaker at the event are renowned art journalist Mr Ooi Kok Chuen, who has more than 70 art books and catalogues to his name and a recipient of the
1991 Australian Cultural Award, the 1989 Goethe-Institute Fellowship as well as the National Art Gallery Art Writer Award for 2003 and 2008 respectively. The Moderator for the night is none other than Pn Zanita Anuar, the Director of Museum Innovation, Museums Department Malaysia who
is no stranger in the Malaysian art scene having been the National Art Gallery�s senior curator since 1995.

The ‘An Impression of Malaysian Art: Defining Events & Artist Groups’ will start from 11am to 1pm and will be held at White Box in MAP@Publika. Seats are limited and admission is free, so please RSVP by contacting those below by Thursday 5 2012 to confirm your attendance.

Art Expo Malaysia 2011 the largest ever – Event coverage

One of the major art events in Malaysia that had just concluded is the Art Expo Malaysia 2011. This year marks the fifth time the event has taken place where it began in 2007 which ended with a huge success. The Malaysian art scene surely benefited well from an international expo like this which promises more opportunities for artists to showcase their work both on the local and international fronts. 

The idea of an Art Expo for Malaysia in a large scale was envisioned by Vincent Sim, an art collector and a curator who wanted to hold a trade-like event to help promote Malaysian art to the world. On the other hand, it was aimed also to bring art from other parts of the world into the Malaysian art scene as well. Countries like Hungary, Singapore, Sweden, Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Germany, India and South Korea were among those who participated while Iranian artists too joined in for the first time through 2 galleries.
