Art competition for special needs kids, adults

An art competition will be held this coming October 7th at the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (L) Methodist in Georgetown. The event is organized by the Rotary Club of Georgetown and it is one of the noblest art competitions catered to kids and adults of special needs.

Entitled ‘Rainbow in my Heart Art Competition 2012’, the event is set to motivate people with special needs to develop their artistic talents. According to Don Law, the organising chairman of the event, there are many art competitions held by companies for normal children but only a few who holds them for the special needs and mentally challenged group.

They are expecting some 1,000 participants to join the competition

It is the intention to show the people of this community that they are close to the hearts of the society and to allow them them to open themselves. The competition will also be held concurrently in 5 other Rotary Clubs around the country. This would involve the clubs of Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, Johor Bahru and Kuantan where they will be trying to enter the Malaysia Book of Records as the largest art competition organised for the participation of special needs children and adults.

The top 3 prizes of each state will win RM500, RM300 and RM100 respectively with ten RM50 consolation prizes while the national level winners will win RM1,000, RM800, RM500 and an iPad each as well as ten RM200 consolation prizes. The national level will involve the top 5 art pieces in each group gallery which will be held on October 18th at the National Visual Arts Gallery.
