The Los Angeles County Museum of Art or LACMA recently held its second annual Film + Art Gala with much fanfare. The event honoured Ed Rushca and the late Stanley Kubrick with a performance by Florence and the Machine as well as a fitting tribute by another mega producer Mr Steven Spielberg.
Some 550 guests from Hollywood’s who’s who list attended the event which was chaired by Leonardo DiCaprio and Eva Chow a board member of the LACMA which coming into its second edition has seen the event becoming quite a mainstay among the art industry of the county. There was a string of renowned people who attended the $5,000 per person event which included Jeff Robinov from Warner Bros, CBS’ Les Moonves with wife Julie Chen, a man who needs no introduction, Mr Jerry Bruckheimer, Disney’s Alan Horn and Robert Iger, Paramount’s Brad Grey and Joel Silver and many others.
The night started with Terry Semel, a co-chair of the LACMA board calling on the stars of Kubrick’s movies to give a few words about the legendary man Stanley Kubrick and people like Ryan O’Neal, Jack Nicholson and Matthew Modine all gave their personal experiences working with Kubrick. And then it was Tom Hanks who had the honour to introduce Spielberg who then paid their own respective tribute to Kubrick. Other celebrities seen at the galla include the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Annette Bening and Warren Beatty, Diane Keaton, Sean Penn and Jeremy Renner, among others. Meanwhile, Ed Ruscha’s pop art exhibition entitled ‘Standard’ is on show until next January at the museum.
