Lim Zee Chee, a first year student from Cyberjaya’s Limkokwing University of Creative Technology painted her way into the history books when she won the 1Malaysia The Futurists Art Competition organised by the Ministry of Tourism under the 1MCAT (1Malaysia Contemporary Art Tourism) programme.
Her acrylic on canvas painting was entitled ‘Under One Roof’, which won the hearts of the judges where she painted Malaysians from all walks of life and background coming together as a community and living in harmony and peach. The 23-year-old student in Professional Design said that her inspiration came from her experience in the university where people from all over the world come together and live harmoniously.
The prize-giving ceremony was held at the Tourism Ministry’s Art Gallery in Putrajaya where Lim won a cash prize of RM5,000. Datuk Seri Ng Yen Yen, the Minister of Tourism presented the prize and a certificate to her and other winners that include the second prize recipient, Nurhidayat Arshad of Universiti Teknologi Mara of Perak. He won RM3,000 and a certificated for his acrylic painting entitled ‘Seminda Sejiaw’.
Meanwhile, the third prize involved RM1,000 cash prize and certificates were awarded to 11 other participants while the rest won consolation prizes of RM500 each. All in all, there were 34 entries at the 1Malaysia The Futurists Art Competition who came from 7 higher education institutions around the country and was part of the government’s art tourism initiative which according to Dr Nh has brought in more than RM30million in the last quarter.
