The Penang State Art Gallery is currently holding an art exhibition which showcases 47 years of artworks from some of Malaysia’s most prominent and established artists. The exhibition will encompass Malaysian art in several mediums which include paintings, prints, installations and sculptures among others that will surely exude the essence of Penang’s art and the surrounding regions.
The show is entitled ‘PSAG (Penang State Art Gallery) Permanent Collection Exhibition’ and it will run for a month in which there will be works that range between 1965 to 2011. Essentially, the artists involved in this show would be those from the first, second and third generation who have an affiliation with Penang. According to Haryany Mohamed, the curator of PSAG, this would be the ideal report card of all the works in the permanent collection as well as a platform to determine what to be acquired in the future.
Apart from the exhibition, visitors could also ‘take home’ the collection through the publication whic is a 304-page hardcover monograph sold for RM60 (discounted price) which will cover all the information of the artworks in this highly impressive collection. There will be information about the dimensions, sizes, medium as well as whether they were donated or purchased by the gallery and the history of the artwork too in the book.
This would be one of the most ideal guidebooks to art, particularly from Penang which will be a great resource to art lovers, enthusiasts, researchers, students or anyone who like to learn more about the local art scene.
