Galeri Petronas is currently hosting a double-exhibition entitled Merdeka Award and the Sketches of Science. This exhibition is to showcase the outstanding of Malaysians and organizations who have been involved with the growth of the nation in areas like science, research and environment.
17 Merdeka Award recipients are acknowledged for their efforts and is now carved into history through the portraits painted by 10 prominent Malaysian artists like Jaafar Taib, Gan Chin Lee, Jeganathan Ramachandram, Loh Bok Lai, Rosli Mat and Datuk Azman Yusof, among others.
Meanwhile, the Sketches of Science exhibition will be showcasing the artistry of German photographer Volker Steger, who is presenting 50 portraits of Nobel Laureates and drawings of their discoveries as it is seen through his camera lenses. This exhibition is held by the Nobel Museum in collaboration with the Foundation Lindau Nobel Prizewinners meeting which is on its seventh stop in Kuala Lumpur.
This double-treat is organized by Galeri Petronas, the Secretariat of the Merdeka Award and the Academy of Sciences Malaysia and among the prominent individuals who are paid tribute to include Tan Sri Professor Dr Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas, Tun Fatimah Hashim, Datin Paduka Mother A Mangalam A/P S Iyaswamy Iyer, Professor Dato Ir Dr Zaini Ujang, Datuk Leslie Davidson, Professor Dato Dr Khalid Tan Sri Abdul Kadir, Professor Dr Halimaton Hamdan and Dr Engkik Soepadmo.
