With an impressive list of artists from different facets of the Malaysian art scene involved, this years Triennial is set to take centrestage with its theme simply called Barricade. The word is inspired through the recent string of events that have been happening in the confluence of the Malaysian political scene that saw the rising frequencies of demonstrations, political activism and policing of public space and this is made all the more prominent with impending general elections coming around the corner pretty soon.
Barricade puts forward a certain playfulness and comic relief to the otherwise serious tones of the political landscape of Malaysia as well as the other societal issues which will be given a lot of emphasis through the string of artworks to be exhibited and other related events. The exhibition will involved a group of renowned and emerging Malaysian artists that will include the likes of Astrid Kooper, Adeputra, Donald Abraham, Heidi Tikka, Hisham Rais, Sharon Chin and Yee I-Lann among others which will be held at White Box while on Saturday, there will be performances by Lee Wen, Occupy Dataran, The Kantonen Family, Ray Langenbach and Sharaad Kuttan. There will be other events involved as well while a talk will be held on 2nd March which will be moderated by Yap Saubin.
