A project by the Penang Global Tourism, the George Town Literary Festival is a 3-day event which is aimed to promote literature among the art and culture lovers. It is one of the festivals organized as part of the cultural events of George Town and will be bringing together the best and most enthusiast literature lovers around the region in various programmes and activities throughout the 3 days.
Essentially, the George Town Literary Festival will be featuring several events along this years theme of Voyages. Hopes. Dreams and it will be officiated by the Chief Minister of Penang, YB Lim Guan Eng. Planned as part of the 3 mega event held in Georgetown concurrently which include the In-Between Arts Festival and the Penang Island Jazz Festival on the weekend of the 23rd and 25th of November, 2012.
This festival will involve several venues around Georgetown with Sekeping Victoria playing host to the opening ceremony and while there will be lectures by renowned literary figures like Dr John Robertson which will be held at the ChinaHouse. Other programmes planned up for the George Town Literary Festival include a Reading and Panel Discussion at the Women Writers Forum, a book launch by Amir Muhammad as well as the Wayang Kata VIII Performance Poetry, among many others.
