The time has come for all aspiring and young artists to come forth and show their works as the application for the Bakat Muda Sezaman 2013 (Young Contemporaries 2013) is now open. Organized by the National Visual Arts Gallery, the Young Contemporaries is one of the most prestigious art awards that has been seen as the platform to springboard many careers of todays artists. The competition started in 1974 when the then National Art Gallery embarked onto this project to discover and find new artists in the country.
The Young Contemporaries award is a free-to-participate art competition for all Malaysians between the age of 20 and 40 which will then go through a panel of judges. The objective of the competition is to showcase the creativity of young Malaysian artists where they are free to join using 2D or 3D artworks ranging from paintings to drawings and installations. The grand prize winner will take home cash prize of RM20,000 and RM5,000 worth of residency or study trip. The exhibition will also see an award which will come with a RM2,000 cash prize. At the end of the competition, there will also be a group show that will showcase the shortlisted artworks which will surely be a catalyst for the winning artists careers.
