It is not often that Singaporean artists hold solo shows here although there has been several who has made their names in the Malaysian art scene. An exciting and very established name in this area is Eric Chan who has been actively involved in the art scene not only in Singapore but in Malaysia and the surrounding regions as well.
The Kuala Lumpur-born artist and graduate of the highly prestigious LASALLE-SIA College of Arts in Singapore and RMIT University in Australia has already cemented his place among the regional great contemporary artists through countless exhibitions and shows in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Australia and Indonesia.
The winner of the Philip Morris Jurors Choice Award in 2002 will have his latest works exhibited at the White Box, MAP@ Publika this coming 2 August 2012 which will be opened with a Buka Puasa session. The show will run for 2 weeks and conclude on 17 August where it would be a great place to catch the latest works of this thought-provoking and engaging artist.
This would be Erics first show after a 10 years absence in the Malaysian art scene and with his new solo show entitled Balik Kampung which means Homecoming. You will surely enjoy his signature camera effects paintings and the title pretty much tells you about his emotions in coming back to Malaysia for his latest exhibition and what it feels to literally balik kampung although he is a Singaporean.
Throughout his career in art, Eric has exhibited in as far as Dubai and London while some of his works have been auctioned by renowned auctioneers like Christies and Sothebys through his subject matters the encircles around the likes of butterflies, human figures and very prominently, flowers and hence you can expect nothing less than the best from Eric with Balik Kampung surely.
