As part of the upcoming programme for the second half of this year, the National Visual Arts Gallery will be hosting a group exhibition entitled Absurd(c)ity. There will be some 60 pieces of artwork which will be featured at this show and will be an ideal show for those who like to gain a quick snapshot Malaysian contemporary art.
This exhibition follows the progress of art of the surreal nature that has been collected since 1950. Hence, there will be quite a visual feast of artworks from some of the most renowned artists whose works are collected by the gallery.
While the permanent collection has been taken for display, there were other invited artists who were involved for this show while several contemporary artists who have been venturing into this surreal style were included as well.
There will be paintings, prints, sculptures and installations that involve 30 artists from the collection while 11 others were invited for their involvement of this unique style. The 30 include the likes of Long Thien Shih, Zainuddin Ismail, Maryam Abdullah, Zulkifli Dahalan, Lee Kian Seng, Isle Noor, Dr Askandar Unglehrt, Yee I-Lann, Hamir Soib, Ahmad Fuad Osman, Jeganathan Ramachandran, Chang Yoong Chia and Ruzzeki Harris, among others.
