The Studio at Straits art gallery is currently hosting a 2-man show entitled A Contemporary Ceramic Exhibition. The show goes on until the 15th of January 2013 and will be showing the works of 2 prominent and contemporary Malaysian artists, Alex Tan and Cheah Yeow Seng. This is a reunion of some kind for the 2 very talented artists who have known each other for a long time.
The A Contemporary Ceramic Exhibition will feature 60 pieces of the works of these long-time friends who are exhibiting together for the second time. They are both full-time potters and it will be interesting to see 2 contrasting styles and methods along the same medium of both the artists. On one hand, Tans work appreciates the objects around us as beautiful things like images of people and animals while Cheahs works are more feminine in many ways.
This show follows a similar one a year back and they are both exciting to be working together again. After all, ceramic art has not been as popular as other visual medium like paintings and sculptures. So to have 2 masters of this medium together would be quite an intriguing and exciting affair. Apart from being long-time friends and potters in their own ways, they are also graduates from the KLCA (Kuala Lumpur College of Art).
