The Sarawak State Library is currently hosting a group exhibition entitled Colourful Flora or Warna-Warni Flora which is part of the 2012 Visual Arts Exhibition. This will essentially be a collection of works by 4 renowned local artists namely Jamel Nusi, Ashari Hamdan, Abdul Razaq Abdul Kudus Lait and Zaidi Wahab.
As the name implies, the Colourful Flora will feature artworks of flora to create better awareness among the public on the importance of conserving the natural heritage of the country and more prominently in Sarawak, where nature is one of the main attractions. The show will be running until the end of the year. Hayati Sabil, the head of service sector for the Pustaka said that the exhibition is about flora illusion which will showcase the techniques and varying methods of the artists like painting, collage and impasto, among others.
Ashari will be featuring his moss series of artwork like Lumut Koteng and Lumut Pustaka while Zaidi will be putting up his Bunga Simpor series. All the artists are art educators in their own respective institutions where the artworks are for sale from RM300. Meanwhile, Jamel who is engaged with Tabuan Jaya Sports School is exhibiting his works like Rafflesia and Frangipani while the impasto technique is seen in Razaqs Terbiar artwork who is a teacher at SMK St Joseph. Ashari teaches at Sekolah Seni Kuching while Zaidi is from Kolej Abdillah.
