Following the Kembara Jiwa group show earlier this year, Galeri Chandan is hosting a follow-up to the highly successful and well received exhibition with the Kembara Jiwa Fukuoko: Expanded Passion show. This will be some sort of a sampler of the contemporary art scene of Malaysia which will be travelling to Japan sometime in October this year.
Several types of Malaysian contemporary art work have been carefully selected to be part of the show in Fukuoka in which it will be involving some 17 Malaysian artists, some emerging and some very well established to be part of the Kembara Jiwa project.
The curator of the exhibition is Nur Hanim Mohamed Khairuddin and 7 of the artists are no strangers to the Kembara Jiwa project having been involved in the first one in Jogjakarta and Bandung last year. Come October 3rd to 8th, the real Fukuoka exhibition will be held at the FAAM (Fukuoka Asian Art Museum) and the one in Galeri Chandan is only the preview of the bigger show then. Nazli Aziz, the founder and owner of the gallery said that the Kembara Jiwa show is now an annual project aimed at giving Malaysian artists more exposure overseas and after this, they are planning to hold in Singapore next. Among the artists involved in this show are Azliza Ayob, Haris Abadi, Juhari Said, Umibaizurah Mahir and the internationally renowned Jalaina Abu Hassan among many others.
