The Penang State Museum will be hosting the group exhibition from the Penang Art Open 2012 competition. This is essentially the works of those that were submitted when the competition was held between 25th May 2012 to 30th August 2012. The Penang Art Open 2012 is typically an annual competition which is organised by the Penang State Museum which is aimed at promoting and developing the states art and culture industry.
The event has been run since the mid 1990s and it is a contemporary art event which is opened to everyone. Participants are required to submit a digital file in the first round and if they are shortlisted, then the actual artwork would need to be submitted for judging. The theme for this year is Business as-Unusual where people (Malaysians and Non-Malaysians) above 16 years of age are eligible to join. The medium eligible for this competition can be any type which could be paintings, sculptures, prints, photography and others as long as they are original and unique and has not been submitted or exhibited previously.
The major prize winner will win cash prize of RM8,000 while there would be 3 Minor prize winners who will bring home RM5,000 in cash. There are also 5 Consolation Prizes which come with RM1,000 cash while Major and Minor prize winners will be inducted into the permanent collection of the gallery.
