Group Exhibition – the 18th Rimbun Dahan Residency Exhibition – 3rd March 2013 – 17th March 2013

The annual Rimbun Dahan Australia Visual Artists’ Residency exhibition will be held between 3rd and 17th March 2013. This year, the oldest artist residency programme in Malaysia will be featuring the works of Melbourne-based Jonathan Nichols and Malaysia’s Perak-born Helmi Azam Tajol Aris.

As it is usually known, the 2 artists were involved in the residency programme where Helmi was the Malaysian Artist for the Malaysia-Australia Visual Artists’ Residency 2012 while Nichols as the Australian Artist in the programme.
This will be an interesting show which will showcase 2 very distinctive and different body of work of 2 very unique artists who have spent some time in Rimbun Dahan to produce their latest artwork. Through this programme, Nichols researched and develop a new way to project his figurative motifs which can be seen in his paintings especially in light of the multi-racial society of Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Azam will be demonstrating his 3-dimensional art which is derived from his own process that includes making multiple plaster casts of a male figure and then applying them into his body of work. The process is quite long but Azam had the time to complete them during his stay in Rimbun Dahan and produced some of the most compelling artworks seen in recent years. The exhibition kicks off on 3rd March while on the 9th of March, there will be an artists’ talk at Rimbun Dahan at 3pm while on the 17th of March, there will be a tour of the grounds by Angela Hijjas.

Opening Hours – Saturdays and Sundays – 10.00am to 6.00pm
Mondays to Fridays – by appointment only
