UiTM (Universiti Teknologi MARA) is currently hosting a group exhibition entitled RUKUN. The exhibition is held at Galeri Seni Tunku Nur Zahirah or known in short as GESTURZ, its prominent art space in the university.
This exhibition is a very significant event for the university as it is held in the 2 months of July and August where the nation will be observing the fasting month of Ramadan and then the Hari Raya as well as Merdeka Day, which falls on the 31st of August.
The artworks that are being displayed are from the permanent collection of the university which are basically works from students of the Faculty of Art and Design. The criteria for selection were decided by the JPKS (Jawatankuasa Pembangunan Koleksi Seni Lukis dan Seni Reka) or Art and Design Development Committee.
RUKUN is the name which is closely related to religion as it is used in Islam while it is also used in Rukun Negara. The word is an Arabic word used to be associated with base, fundamentals, pillar, joint and such. Hence it is the most appropriate word to reflect the show in commemorating Hari Raya and the countrys independence. There are quite a lot of different mediums to see like printmaking, calligraphy, paintings and such from the school that has produced some of the most successful and remarkable artists of our time.
