Wei-Ling Contemporary is set to host its annual 18@8 group exhibition this coming December. This has always been one of the most anticipated shows from the renowned art space which brings together emerging and established Malaysian artists together within a certain theme.
This year, it will be the ninth edition of 18@8 which started back in 2005 when it was held at its Jalan Scotts gallery. Featuring 18 artitsts, it went on to Karachi in Pakistan the next year before coming back the year after that. In 2008, the format was changed where instead of 18 artists, it involved 9 artists with 2 pieces of artwork.
Meanwhile, the 18@8 was given more character then when it was called 18@8 Vice and Virtue while a year later, it was called 18@8 1Malaysia: Beyond the Canvas where the artists could work on other medium instead of the more conventional canvases. And then there was the Absolut 18@8 which was a charity show using Absolut bottles that were auctioned with proceeds channeling to the SPCA.
18@8 surely has come a long way and this year, it will be a show in collaboration with FURLA, a renowned Italian premium leather goods and fashion accessories brand where it will be known as 18@8 Mirror, Mirror On The Wall.
