The Tuanku Fauziah Museum and Art Gallery of Universiti Sains Malaysia up north will be hosting the group photography exhibition entitled Tohoku Through the Eyes of Japanese Photographers from the 7th of December 2012 to 5th January 2013. This show will feature a series of photography work that show off the culture and tradition of the Tohoku region. This region was recently plagued by a tragic earthquake in March 2011 but the show is not about the disaster.
Instead, the 122 works will showcase the beauty of Tohoku as seen through the lens of photographers between the 1940s and the 2010s. 10 artists works are being collected in this show which will be demonstrating the rich heritage and culture of Tohoku.
Organized by the Japan Foudnation, it is also held in cooperation with Penangs Consulate-General of Penang. The Tohoku exhibition was held at Galeri Shah Alam previously before travelling up north to USMs art space. Apart from the exhibition, there will also be documentary and animation videos on Tohoku carried out by NHK Enterprise. Among the interesting events planned out include screenings like Can you See Our Lights? -First Festival after the Tsunami, Light Up Nippon, How Do Earthquakes and Tsunamis Happen? and The Lessons of the Great Tohoku Earthquake, Its Effects and Relevance to Us In Malaysia among others.
