Galeri Chandan is currently hosting a group art exhibition entitled Alter Ego. This show features the works of some of the most exciting contemporary Malaysian artists who come together in displaying their body of work that intertwines the schizophrenia of people in the society today.
This show is one which is brave enough to offer the avenue for these artists to do something different and provide the platform for them to showcase to the public. That means if one is known for printmaking, expect a whole new perspective to printing or an approach to sculpture and the approach continues from there.
Alter Ego, as the name implies addresses this issue through the views of the artists involved. They were required to explore and experiment with mediums and subject matter outside their comfort zone and in other platforms apart from what they are known for.
As such, there are some very interesting interpretations and new expressions which deviated from the usual body of work that artists like Awang Damit, Gan Chine Lee and Meme or Khairul Azmir Shoib are known for which gives the audience a whole new perspective of the artists, their personas, their respective worlds and their own techniques.
