A group art exhibition is currently being held at the Gurney Paragon in Penang. Entitled Listen to My Heart, this is a charity art exhibition which is hosted by Marches or Malaysian Resource Centre for Hearing and Speech-Language.
It is held at St Jos in Gurney Paragons Level 3 where there are more than 100 paintings on show. What makes this show remarkable is that the paintings are done by 30 individuals with autism. The groups of artists are between 4 and 25 years of age.
All the artworks at this show are for sale with prices ranging from RM50 to RM400 where proceeds will be channeled to the Gift of Communication Fund or GCF. Apart from that, this show is to create awareness of autism among the general public. Sylvain Yong, the director of the Yune Art Centre who screened the entries for the exhibition said that the artists used the paintings as their medium of expression and it is hoped that the show will raise at least RM10,000 for the foundation which was formed to help those with autism in terms of speech therapy and hearing aids. The GFC has helped 13 families with financial aid of RM19,290 since it was formed last year.
