Media and art has often been closely associated with each other where many regard the 2 disciplines to be a part of each other. Hence, it is not surprising that an exhibition featuring an integration of both media and art is being organized and that is what you get to see in the upcoming Media/Art Kitchen Reality Distortion Field show.
The exhibition will be held in Publika where there will be a wide array of activities and works on media art on show. Since it deals with media and art, the show will be incorporating the use of video and digital technology which is very much a popular medium today.
The show is held in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation initiative entitled Media/Art Kitchen, using the space as the place where invention and creativity are cultivated and comes alive.
Meanwhile, the sub-theme of Reality Distortion Field is to depict the kitchen as the place accustomed to the likes of a workshop and where ideas are conceptualized and very much become reality. There will be works from some contemporary artists around the region like Japanese media artist Kuwakubo Ryota and Bani Haykal of Singapore. This is a show which is a move away from the conventional art exhibitions of paintings and sculptures because it provides a glimpse of what is current and what is set to come.
