In an unprecedented and probably the first of its kind, the HoM (House of Matahati) will be hosting a collection of artworks from 77 Malaysian artists which will be featuring one work each from the artists who are both established and emerging. Basically, how it works is that the 77 artists would be producing their own interpretation of Malaysian art and the artwork would be sold to help fund the setting up of the MARS (Malaysian Art Archive & Research Support) which would basically be a non-profit research support center aimed at compiling and archiving of printed materials of the visual and fine arts of Malaysia.
The title of the show is Transit A4 and that basically captures the transit from the past to the new experiences of the artists and the main requirement in this show is that it must not be larger than A4 is size. Preview for the exhibition will be on November 6th, 2012 while the opening would be on Saturday, the 10th of November 2012 which will also be the soft launch of MARS.
The project is the brainchild of Shahnim Safian, Bayu Utomo Radjikin and Nur Hanim Khairuddin and the list of artists involved in Transit A4 is as impressive as Malaysian art in general and that would include the likes of Ahmad Zakii Anwar, Bayu Utomo Radjikin himself while other notable names include Bibi Chew, Chan Kok Hooi, Gan Chin Lee, Jalaini Abu Hassan, Jamil Mat Isa, Jeganathan Ramachandram, Ruzzeki Haris, Datuk Sharifah Fatimah Zubir, Shia Yih Yiing, Siund Tan, Teoh Joo Ngee, Umibaizurah Mahir, Wong Chee Meng, Yap Sau Bin, Yusof Majid, Zainon Abdullah and Dr Zakaria Ali.
