The National Visual Arts Gallery or Balai Seni Visual Negara will be hosting a solo exhibition by Latiff Mohidin entitled 6 Decades of Latiff Mohidin: A Retrospective. The show will be held for 6 months between 26th December 2012 to 13th June 2013 which will honour one of the most remarkable and established Malaysian artist of all time.
As the name implies, the show will be showcasing works of Latiff that has been collected over the last 6 decades which will in turn show the process of making art from this artist. There will be a wide variety of art forms made by Latiff with works ranging from the 1950s all the way to the 2000s. As a Malaysian artist, Latiff has been instrumental not only in his own career but also in the development of Malaysian art at large.
There will be 3 time periods involved in this show which will illuminate the phases of Latiffs journey as an artist which are the Formative Period, the Meditative Period and the Gestural Period. Essentially, Latiffs works would be best categorized within his Pra Berlin series, the Berlin, Pago-Pago, Mindscape 1, Langkawi, Mindscape 2, Gelombang, Rimba and Voage series which would surely inspire the current fleet of Malaysian artists today.
