‘Northern Malaysian Scenes’ – Group exhibition at Galeri Seni Mutiara

The Galeri Seni Mutiara is hosting a group show entitled ‘Northern Malaysian Scenes’. This will essentially be an exhibition which will showcase some of the most compelling artworks from prominent artists mostly from the northern parts of Malaysia.

The artists involved in this show include Calvin Chua Cheng Khoon, Fong Kim Sing, Kang Ah Sim, Keng Seng Choo, Lee Choon Kooi and Tean Wei Gin, all of whom are well-established and renowned in their own communities. The opening of the ‘Northern Malaysian Scenes’ will be held on the 14th October 2012 by Dr Bertil Samuelson at 6.00pm with which the show will then continue until 4th November 2012.

Calvin Chua Cheng Koon is a Kedah born artist who holds a Diploma in Fine Art at the then Kuala Lumpur College of Art. His artwork has been seen since 1982 through countless group shows that spanned across the region that includes Singapore, Bangkok, Jakarta, Malaysia as well as in Japan and Belgium, among others.

Fong Kim Sing is also born in Kedah where he has won several awards like the Third Prize in the Kedah Festival Open Show while his solo exhibitions include the 1996 ‘Misty Morning’ show at NN Gallery, the ‘Lotus’ show in 2002, the 2009’s ‘Diamond in conjunction with the artist’s 60th Birthday,’ at Galeri Dunia Seni Lukis, Kuala Lumpur and most recently at the ‘Perjalanan Seorang Seniman’ show at NN Gallery.

Another artist who will be featured at the ‘Northern Malaysian Scenes’ is Khoo Cheang Jin who studied architecture in Australia and comes from Penang. His works have been involved in exhibitions like the ‘Asian Watercolours’ in 1994 at the Kuala Lumpur Galeri Petronas, the ‘Expression Of The Soul – Nine Contemporary Singapore Artists’ show at the Empress Place Museum in Singapore, the ‘Island View – World View’ show in 1997 at NN Gallery as well as the ‘Artist’s Favourite Art Exhibition’ at the Penang State Art Gallery.
