Rediscovery: Icograda Design Week in Sarawak 2012

October will see the design industry shifting its focus towards East Malaysian state Sarawak where the Icograda Design Week will be held. This would essentially be a festival-like event in which designers from all over the world will be congregating at the cultural state over a week of activities that encircle around the arts and design.

The Icograda Design Week in Sarawak 2012 will be held at the Kuching Old Courthouse which appropriately is a 165 year-old heritage building which is also the landmark of the state capital as well. It would be an ideal platform for designers to come together for knowledge sharing and to work with one another amidst the rich culture and long historical background of Sarawak.

The week-long event is themed ‘Rediscovery’ which is aimed at celebrating the indigenous design and motifs of the people here and known throughout the world and to highlight the relevance of the local culture in the international arena. The Rediscovery week will be a truly unique festival that will integrate the indigenous culture and crafts of the people of Sarawak with the modern and contemporary design methods and such.

Industry practitioners from both the local and international fronts will be participating at the Icograda Design Week Sarawak 2012 where there are a host of events lined up that include exhibitions, conference sessions, workshops as well as a trade fair for companies and designers to network and expand their reach.

On top of that, there are also many other accompanying events and activities where participants could join the pre and post conference tours like the city tour, the White Rajah trail, visit the Orang Utan, the Mangrove and dolphin cruise and many others to immerse in the attractions of Kuching. A visit to the Sarawak Cultural Village would also be an ideal programme to learn more about the strong and historical culture of Sarawak.
