The Penang State Art Gallery will be hosting a solo exhibition by one of Malaysias most renowned artists, Chong Hon Fatt. The show is entitled Retrospective and it will be part of the galleries annual effort to honour outstanding Malaysian artists, something it has been doing since 2007.
This year, the Penang State Art Gallery is honouring Chong Hon Fatt after he received the unanimous vote from the committee who first had his solo exhibition almost half a decade ago. There will be a press conference for the opening of the show on 6th October at 4pm at the gallery which will be available for public viewing for the whole November.
Chong Ong Fatt is one of the prominent artists of Penang where he was born in 1941 and had his first solo exhibition in 1965 at the Chin Kang Association. He would then continue to hold several solo shows for the next few decades in very prominent spaces like the Penang State Art Gallery, the Daiichi Modern Art Gallery in Kedah, the Art Case Galleries in Kuala Lumpur as well as in NN Gallery.
His works were also involved in countless group exhibitions which have travelled across the region that include Japan where he was involved in the 17th and 18th Japan Modern Art Association Exhibition in Osaka and to china where he was involved in the 2000 International Peace Modern Art Exhibition in Nanjin City Museum China.
Hence, this would be a rare opportunity to revisit all the great works of this artist who has taken the world by storm since first emerged into the scene. It would be a great chance to see the works that have established him as one of the most compelling artists around today from the man who won the Major Award at the China Watercolour Paintings Open Competition in 2001.
