The Atelier Art Space and Gallery in Petaling Jaya is currently hosting the solo exhibition by Andrew Chew. Those who have not heard of this artist would be delighted to know that he is a self-taught designer who has been involved with modern art and abstract expressionism in a very unique medium, which is structural wood formations and furnishing.
Hence, the Woodprint show would surely feed the thirst for something different in the art scene, a clear and much-needed deviation from the usual paint on canvas. Andrews works are inspired from his upbringing around colours, oil paint, wood, sculptures and others which are pretty much his forte.
Wood is the prime material that Andrew uses in his body of work all of which are highly unique and individual based on their respective grain alignments and attributes. It is not easy for anyone to comprehend the unique characteristics of wood and that is what Andrew does so with diligence and intimacy. From there, he plays with colours and other elements to further exude his artistic expressions. His works were recently part of The Young & Upcoming Showcase of 5 designers from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia which was seen at the Designers Weekend at White Box, Publika in July.
Opening hours: Mondays Fridays : 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
Saturdays: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
