Solo Exhibition ‘Great Migration’ by Najib Ahmad Bamadhaj – Taksu Gallery

Coming up this October is a solo exhibition from Najib Ahmad Bamadhaj, a renowned contemporary Malaysian artist. The show will be held at Taksu Gallery in Kuala Lumpur which will run from 4 October to 31 October.

The exhibition is entitled ‘Great Exhibition’ which will show some of the most exciting artwork from this young and emerging artists who have recently taken the art world by storm. There will be several themes used by Najib to promote his work that encircles around the likes of animals through his mixed-media persona in which the likes of mud, cement, zinc and other material are used.

This will be his debut solo show held in Taksu who holds a Diploma in Fine Art from Universiti Teknologi Mara in Malacca and a Bachelor in Arts in Fine Art from UiTM of Shah Alam in which he majored in painting. Prior to this, Najib has been involved in many group shows and will now be able to show the world his most interesting works through the solo show.

It is often seen in Najib’s work that he separates very clearly the surface and its subject matter. Instead of focusing on the subject matter, which is usually the case, Najib uses the surface (in some of his works, the wall) as to pull the attention of the viewer towards the object which is pretty much his trademark in his body of work.

He was previously involved in the 2-man show with Taksu together with Hirzaq Harris while he was also involved in the HIMPUN art exhibition held at the National Visual Arts Gallery. Najib’s reputation surely precedes him as the Kuala Lumpur based artists was among the finalists of the VAA KL (Visual Arts Awards Kuala Lumpur) in 2011 and the First Prize winner of the Tanjong Heritage Art Competition in Kuala Lumpur in 2010.
