The Galeri Seni Mutiara in Penang will be hosting the solo exhibition by Fong Kim Sing entitled Jelapang Padi. This will be a show which will feature the acrylic paintings of Kim Sing which as the name implies will be focusing on some very green and wide landscapes of the padi fields. Jelapang Padi means Rice Bowl and is often a phrase used to depict the state of northern state of Kedah which is known as the Rice Bowl of Malaysia as it is where the main padi produces of the country comes from.
Anyone who had travelled up north to Kedah would have seen the endless rows and rows of padi fields all lined up on both sides of the expressways which harvest the staple food of the country and hence, it is only natural that Kim Sing ventures into these landscapes to showcase his art.
Kim Sing is very much accustomed to the padi planting industry where his father was a padi planter. This would be the show that will be featuring his childhood in many ways and his fascination with the scenes of padi planting, something he has in him since 1967 and that can all be clearly seen in this very colorful exhibition.
