Chai Diam Ma in Penang is currently hosting the first solo exhibition of Jennifer Mourin which will be running until the 30th of November 2012. The exhibition will showcase the latest works of Mourin called the Bodyscrapes series who is perhaps one of the most exciting contemporary artists in Malaysia today. She studied at the Butterworth Convent Secondary School as well as learning the arts form the London College of Printing which today is known as the London College of Communications.
Mourins paintings is interesting in many ways where she works on a variety of subject matter while her realistic portraits often exude a certain naive art elements. It must be noted that Mourins art encircle around strong women and females in general. She paints the role of women in society as well as certain controversial practices like breastfeeding in public which is a natural practice but seen as taboo in certain societies. She has worked with various organisations like the Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development and is a consultant with the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action of Malaysia. Her works have been seen in various spaces like the WABA Breastfeeding Partners Forum, the Little Penang Street as well as the Creative Womens Exhibit at the G Hotel in Penang.
