The Penang State Museum and Art Gallery is currently hosting the solo exhibition of Singaporean artist NG Woon Lam. The show is entitled A Tale of Three Cities and that is just as clear as it can be.
Ng is painting the rustic and beautiful landscapes of the straits cities which are Penang, Malacca and Singapore. There will be the traditional and cultural scenes of the 3 cities painted by Ng who is a signature member of the NWS (National Watercolour Society) and the AWS (American Watercolour Society).
This will be his 3 solo exhibition that will showcase his works in oil and watercolor where the cities were selected as part of his academic research due to their rich historical and cultural backgrounds. Ngs techniques were attributed to one of Singapores Master Watercolour artist Mr Gog Sing Hooi as well as the late Associate Professor Emeritus Cheng-Khee Chee.
There is quite an interesting show that combines his Chinese calligraphic strokes with those that he learnt from Gog. Ng is currently a lecturer of the arts at the highly prestigious Nanyang Technological University’s School of Art, Design and Media in Singapore and this would be a rare opportunity to view the works of one of the artistic masters from the southern neighbor.
