The MIA Art Centre is currently hosting the latest works of Jason Montinola in his solo show entitled Theater of Absurdities. Jason Montinola is presenting his new body of work in this show where, as the name implies will be showcasing his art in a sort of theatre setting.
This means that he is basically the playwright while he uses his paintings as the characters of his play and the viewers will take on the function of the audience of his show. The theme of this show circles around the narratives of daily lives where he enters into an edgy and ghostly realm, which might not be for the faint-at-heart.
As the word Absurdities is used, Montinola dwells into some gothic expressions and high dramas which could in many way dispel the logical thinking of the common human mind. It is somewhat a journey into the unknown like that of dreams and imagination that the artist portrays in this show. Featuring some of the highly absurd subject matters, it is a fascinating take on how this Philippines-born artist put forth his thoughts. Montinola holds a Bachelor of Science from the Technological University of Philippines where he majored in Art Education.
Opening hours: Mondays Saturdays 12.00pm 6.00pm
