The House of Matahati (HoM) is currently hosting the solo show by its resident artist Yeoh Choo Kuan. The exhibition is entitled Private Sentiment which will showcase the latest works of this emerging artist who comes from Kelantan. Yeoh is a graduate of the Dasein Academy of Art where he completed his Diploma in Fine Art in 2010 and has participated in many art competitions and exhibitions.
Yeoh was among the finalists in 2010 and 2011 editions of the VAA Starhill Gallery Arts Award while he was also in the final of the 2011 Malaysian Emerging Artist Award (MEAA2011). He had joined the 6 months artist residency with HOM Gallery after he embarked on a year of a backpacking solo journey around South Asia and to Europe.
This exhibition will be demonstrating the works that Yeoh created during his half-year stint in HOM. Through his experience of looking at places around the world, Yeoh produced works that expresses the human emotions through his clever play of colours, lines and brush strokes. Essentially, his works in abstract expressionism are painted with much allure where he uses different media like charcoal and oil which draw the viewer into his own unique world of thoughts and ideas.
