The Galeri Seni Mutiara in Penang will be hosting the solo show of the late George Voon entitled A Posthumous Retrospective & Requiem. This exhibition will be one which is truly retrospective and as the name implies, a Posthumous show for Voon who passed away at the age of 43 in Paris.
This will be a first for Galeri Seni Mutiara to hold such an exhibition as it involves Voon, who is a fashion designer and artist who has been residing in Paris. He is a Penangite who was born here in 1961.
Such is the unique methods of expression from Voon which can be seen through his works at the show where his clever play of colors and shapes put him among one of the most unique artists of his time. Using oil paint in most of his works, this Raquiem is an exciting collection of artworks which makes him so different from many who are still around today.
Unknown to many in the Malaysian art scene, Voon will surely stand amidst the best in our industry if he was still alive but fortunately, through the efforts of the gallery, his works can be celebrated and enjoyed by art enthusiasts and collectors who will be fascinated with his signature styles.
