Solo Show – Reflection – 10th February 2014 – 23rd February 2014

malaysia-reflectionThe Penang State Art Gallery is currently is currently hosting a solo art exhibition entitled ‘Reflection’. The show consists of 102 pieces of artwork from Sirajudeen Kamal Batcha who has already broken several records along the way.

The pieces are part of Sirajudeen’s Arabic kufi calligraphy of the 99 Beautiful Names of God which set a new world record and acknowledged as the ‘Longest Mirror-Carving Artwork’ by the Asia Book of Records, the Official World Record and The Malaysia Book of Records.

Apart from that, Sirajudeen’s work has already broken the Records Setter for the ‘Fastest Time to Carve an Image in a Piece of mirror/ Most Consecutive Mirror Carvings Created by individual’, among others. There will be 111 works of carved mirrors featured in this showcase.

Sirajudeen is hoping to create more awareness among non-Muslims about God’s graces and hope that people from all walks of life live in harmony, respect and tolerance. The artist is currently working on his work full-time and has pretty much made a name for his techniques in 5mm thick mirrors. The self-taught artist said that the series was completed in 58 days. Record Setter clocked his ‘Fastest Time to Carve an Image in a Piece of Mirror’ in 57.46 seconds.
