The Museum of Asian Art at University Malaya Kuala Lumpur is hosting the solo show by Malaysian artists Mat Ali Mat Som. The show is entitled Unsung Heroes and that will be his second solo exhibition which will be covering 13 main sculptures and 5 smaller sculptures as well as 25 paintings and sketches where selected ones are for sale.
What makes the show so remarkable and exciting is that it took Mat Ali 4 years to complete this body of work for Unsung Heroes. The main sculptures are mounted onto a natural stone base and have been carefully crafted to inch-perfection. The works are made using materials like zinc, aluminum, iron, tin, steel and others he deemed appropriate to tell his story.
As the title implies, it is all about warriors of the country which have been told in history. The common ground among all the warriors are their commitment and belief to defend the country against invaders. This includes the likes of Mat Kilau, Tengku Kudin, Rentap and Tok Gajah and Mat Ali wants this exhibition to serve as a reminder to the younger generation about the sacrifices of those who came before with a united objective and commitment.
Opening Hours: Mondays to Fridays 9.00am to 5.00pm
