Wei-Ling Gallery is currently hosting a solo art exhibition featuring the works of Yau Bee Ling. The show is entitled ‘Light Bearer’ and this will be the sixth solo show from Bee Ling with Wei-Ling Gallery.
Works from personal experiences
The title expresses the desire of the artist to showcase her personal thoughts and emotions about her existence in the world.
It will display works garnered from what she went through as a female in society. They address issues like relationships with people, spiritual aspects, phobia and others.
She states that light-bearing elements were expressed through her new approach to her work. This can be seen through her lines, shapes, textures and colors, all of which is to give the viewer stronger connections with her work.
Elements and Spiritual Beliefs
With Light Bearer, Bee Ling moves from her ‘impressions’ to a more relatable stance. Her works are more ‘intentions’-based and sprout through her spiritual self.
One might notice the influential factor of the water element which she addresses in her attempt to overcome the fear of drowning, one traumatic experience during her childhood.
Elements that she uses in her work include the reimagination of nature like trees, landscapes, flower petals and such. This show represents a conversation-like dialogue with the surroundings and in its own unique approach, questions the existence and purpose of life.
Along the way, it answers several qualms about what has happened, is happening and would happen.
The ‘Light Bearer’ show is held at the Wei-Ling Gallery in Jalan Scott, Brickfields until 26th November 2022.
