With the backing of the country’s central bank, the Bank Negara Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery could well be one of the most prestigious art spaces in the country. Exhibitions are held throughout the year where it works with selected artists and practitioners across the region.
Background of the gallery
The Bank Negara Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery was first built at the annexe location of Bank Negara Malaysia’s headquarters. This space was intended to keep the art collection of BNM. It would later on be closed as there was not enough space where the artworks were kept away. In 2011, BNM allocated a space in Sasana Kijang not far from the HQ and that is where the collection can now be viewed.
Collection of Malaysia’s top art
The gallery is situated within a peaceful and lush environment tucked away in the heart of the city. Its architecture alone is an artistic wonder. With more than 1,500 pieces of artworks on show, the building is made of steel and glass. Many exhibitions here are usually organized in a certain theme while it holds some of the most prestigious shows and exhibitions here.
