Background of City Art Gallery Malaysia
City Art Gallery Malaysia is perhaps one of the most established art galleries located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Located at the Ampwalk, City Art Gallery Malaysia hosts a myriad of different art exhibitions throughout the year to welcome art lovers across the country.
Founders of the gallery
The art gallery was founded and operated by Vincent Sim Taik Choo and his wife Mary Tang. Before operating as a full-fledged art gallery, it began through selling Chinese brushes and material. This gave them a good headstart before eventually becoming an art space for Malaysian and regional artists to showcase their respective bodies of work.
Major events in art
At most times, there are art exhibitions that involve group shows while many other Malaysian artists have also held their maiden solo exhibitions at City Art Gallery. The space is very active in promoting art among the public where it has been participating in international events like the International Art Expo Malaysia, the Hangzhou Art Fair in 2009 the ManilART 2009 and many others which contributes to the overall development of Malaysian art.
