Anyone who has heard of Datuk Ramli Ibrahim would know his specialization in the Malaysian arts. In fact, Ramli is the artistic director of the Sutra Dance Theatre, one of the most prominent performance arts venues in Malaysia.
Unique offerings
At the Sutra Dance Theatre is where the Sutra Gallery is housed. This is a very unique option for Malaysians who love visual arts. As an associated entity with the dance organization, this gallery has been leading and pioneering the arts in drawing, photography and painting while offering other forms and mediums including performances and most notably, dance.
Background of Sutra Gallery
The gallery came about in 1996 and since then it has been producing some of the most remarkable art shows to date. The artworks on show include commissioned pieces, specially selected works and major exhibitions. Among its more notable shows here include the Odissi and Bhrata Natyam. This gallery has been a truly unique alternative to the more commercial art galleries over the years. As such, it has attracted some of the top artists across the region. Among those who have had shows here include Syed Thajudeen, Dinanath Pathy and Eric Peris, to name a few.
