Background of The Art Gallery
The Art Gallery Penang opened its doors back in 1989. This makes it one of the oldest and among the most established art spaces in Malaysia. The gallery was founded by Dato Dr Tan Chee Khuan and his late wife. A known art philanthropist and art collector, the gallery began when it was selling brush paintings mostly form China. It then became more active when it started hosting art exhibitions at an average of 12 shows per year, making it a very sought after space among artists.
Penang’s art space
To say the least, The Art Gallery Penang is very well-known for being one of major movers of art from Penang while offering the space to other local artists as well. In recent years, the gallery has moved on to offer more to the community by publishing art books on art and artists from both within and outside Malaysia.
