Core Design Gallery is currently holding a group exhibition which features the works of 5 emerging Malaysian artists. The show is entitled Zaman Batu Contemporary which as the paradoxical title suggests encircles around a contemporary approach to something that is old and traditional. Zaman Batu literally means stone age.
There will be the works of 5 emerging contemporary artists who are Ali Bebit, Ashriq Sudin, Haafiz Shahimi, Jamil Zakaria and Azli Wahid, all of whom will be showcasing their interpretations of traditional subject matters using contemporary methods. There are paintings, sculptures and installations on show while an unconventional technique in printmaking known as pyrography will also be featured. The 5 artists have been working to produce the artwork for 9 months which were made to demonstrate the thinking process and experimental research of their art.
The artworks were commissioned by the artistic director of the gallery Scarlette Lee who said that the artists were selected not only for their art but also for their conceptual skills, technical research and level of effort through their commitment in producing quality and compelling artworks in the last 2 years. Ali Bebit is showcasing his sculpture entitled A.W.A.S while Haafiz Shahimi is responsible to for the pyrography art work.
