Group Exhibition – 18@8 KUL-SIN – 12th December 2012 – 8th January 2013

Wei-Ling Gallery will be hosting the annual 18@8 KUL-SIN group art exhibition where this year’s instalment will be held in Singapore. The exhibition will run from 12th to 19th December 2012 at ION Art down south which will feature a string of artists and their respective expressions of a specific theme for this year. After that, the exhibition will return to Wei-Ling Contemporary where it will run until next January 8th.

The 18@8 exhibition has become quite an icon in the Malaysian art scene since it first started in 2005 at the then newly established Jalan Scott’s gallery. The name was drawn from the fact that there will be 18 artists selected for the show. In 2006, the 18@8 travelled to Karachi at the Amin Gulgee Gallery which was then entitled 18@8 KUL-KHI, which is the same way it is named this time around.

The 18@8 series would then continue to grow where in 2008 saw the conception of 18@8 Vice and Virtue where 9 artists were involved to produce 2 artworks each. In 2009, Wei-Ling Gallery expanded the show through the 18@8 1Malaysia: Beyond the Canvas in which artists were required to produce artwork that were not of the conventional canvas paintings medium. In 2010, 18@8 again changed its theme through the Absolut 18@@ show where artists gave their rendition of Absolut Vodka bottles which would then be auctioned off and then donated to the SPCA.
For 2012, renowned artists like Anurendra Jegadeva, Ivan Lam, Chin Kong Yee and Zulkifli Yusoff will be involved while there will also be Jason Wee from Singapore who will be showcasing their artworks at this highly reputable group show.
