1Malaysia Contemporary Art Tourism 2011

The 1Malaysia Contemporary Art Tourism 2011 or MCAT 2011 is an effort by the Ministry of Tourism and the brainchild of its minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen which is a 3 months long event set to bring in more visitors and tourists through contemporary art of Malaysia. This would be the second year after last year’s success where there will be numerous art-related events and activities throughout the country that will involve public places like shopping centers, hotels, cultural and convention centers as well as art galleries.

In total, this year will see a 17 events which is twice as many as compared to last year. 8 shopping centers have been pulled in including Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Fahrenheit 88, Starhill Gallery, Publika Shopping  Mall, Sungai Wang, Plaza Low Yatt, KL City Walk, and Sunway Pyramid while the Malaysia Tourism Information Center will be holding an art exhibition from the society of people with learning disabilities.

Exhibitions will also be held at places like the Sabah Terminal Airport, the Monsopiad Cultural Village, Artists corner in Sabah while the World Rainforest Music Festival in July in Sarawak and too is included. Meanwhile more than 100 art galleries around the country will be participating as well with artists like Yusuf Ghani, Gan Chin Lee, Ting Cho Chien, Eston Tan, Chin Kong Yee, Hamidi Hadi, Nor Azizan Paiman, Bayu Utomo and others will be exhibiting their work.
