Some great news for the Malaysian art scene came about recently when the works of 5 artists were selected to be exhibited at the 2012 Olympic Fine Arts show in London. The most remarkable work to be put on show would be that from Mastura Abdul Rahman, a young Malaysian artist who will have her work placed together some of the Malaysian greats like Prof Awang Damit Awang, Dr Cheah Thien Soong, Dr Cheng Haw Chien and Syed Thajudeen Shaik Abu Talib. Datin Paduka Chiew Mei Fun, the secretary-general of the Malaysia and China Culture and Arts Association meanwhile said that there will be another exhibition coming up after the London show where the works of Malaysian artists are set to be put on show at the Beijing’s Olympic Culture and Art Centre.
To represent Malaysia in London would be surely be one of the highest accord for any Malaysian artist at one of the major art capitals in the world what with the being in the show that will showcase London which is gearing up for the Summer Olympic Games next year. The works were presented to Datuk Maglin D’Cruz, the Deputy Minister of Information Communication and Culture recently and will then travel to London where they will be shown to the public for a week. The show was held in conjunction with the kick-starting of a host of other events leading to one of the major sporting events in the world set to be hosted by the British capital next June.
The art exhibition is entitled ‘Building a Better and More Peaceful World’ started in August 1 where it is aimed at promoting art and culture of diversified races of the world today through their body of work and artistry. It would surely be a great honour for Mastura, one of the fast rising young artists from Malaysia who since graduating with Fine Arts from Universiti Teknologi Mara has won several awards for her exemplary art work both on the local and international art scene. The other artists are no stranger to the Malaysian art scene where the likes of Dr Awang Damit have become one of the most iconic individuals of the local and international art scene for many years now.
