The 2012 Tanjong Heritage National Art Competition held last year saw some very overwhelming response which had 4 students from The One Academy emerging winners for their inspiring and amazing artworks. The event was held as part of the corporate social responsibility by Tanjong to help preserve and promote arts and culture among Malaysia students. It was held to commemorate and recognize young and coming artists in the country as well as to celebrate the rich art, culture and heritage that Malaysia has often been known for and associated with.
The students who won the competition created artworks that most successfully reflected the traditional culture and art of Malaysia which was selected among 1,168 entries received. They were among the 20 pieces of artwork which were shortlisted where the first prize went to Ellie Yong Sze Ching. The Illustration student took home the grand prize for her ‘A Childhood Friend’ in the water colour category which used the colours of the national flag in the background and her portrayal of a Malaysian child with a hibiscus on her hair. The second prize was won by Yii Ting Fui, who studied Digital Animation for her artwork ‘Di Sebalik Wayang’.
Meanwhile, the consolation prize went to the artwork ‘Old Medicine Man’s home’ by Lai Poh Moon who studied Illustration with The One Academy with Leong Sheng Yung who remarkably won the Second Prize in the Charcoal, Pencil and Ink category as well as the Consolation prize in the Mixed Media category for his artwork entitled ‘The Marriage’.
