The NN Gallery is currently holding the solo exhibition of renowned Malaysian artist Heng Eow Lin. This show is entitled Joy in Space which will be held until the 27th October at the gallery and it will be featuring some of Hengs latest paintings in oil as well as his very much reputable bronze and cultured marble sculptures.
Essentially, Hengs last exhibition at NN Gallery was in 1997 when he was involved with a group show there and the gallery had operated at Jalan Jati. Since then, the art scene has grown by leaps and bounds and so have the artist and the gallery respectively. The Joy in Space is basically an extension from Hengs last series of work entitled A Mothers Joy when he captured the love and bonding between a mother and her child. For this, Heng dwells into the youth element where he showcases the interaction of children who lives in a somewhat carefree world.
Hengs nostalgic works are seen in this show where it reminds the audience of the times when children playing were totally different from what it is like today. The messages are clear and they exude the very notation of how life used to be and how it is not possible to return to those times unless someone starts taking notice and preserving them.
