Currently going on at the Artemis Art Gallery is the Yogya Invasion 01: Three Levels of Abstraction show. This is an art exhibition which is inspired by the rich culture and art industry of Yogyakarta which has, in recent years grown to be fondly known as the art capital of Southeast Asia.
The unique factor about Yogyarkarta or Yogya in short is that it is known for its rich cultural landscapes with a very vibrant art scene, unlike the modern metropolitans of Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. This is where you will find an exciting comparison of the arts with the juxtaposition of 2 very contrasting art industries between Indonesia and the more developed countries.
Yogya is where you will find the likes of the very established ISI or Institut Seni Indonesia which has a reputation of being one of the best Fine Arts schools in the region. ISS, being one of the most established art schools in the region has also produced some of the most compelling artworks among some very renowned artists as well.
Hence, Artemis Art has brought a preview of a larger art scene of Yogya to our shores through its Yogya Invasion series of shows and the Three Levels of Abstraction is one of them. The show was opened on July 13 with the presence of the Honorable Mr Mulya Wirana who is the Charge dAffaires of the Embassy of The Republic of Indonesia.
The show encompasses 3 very different styles of 3 very special artists who are Andi Firmanto, Antoni Eka Putra and Maestoria Ve. Andis work has been known for his innocent and naive personas while Antonis work is highly geometrical and Maetorias body of work encompasses the elaboration of fluidity and solidity in many forms.
Together, the 3 artists form a unique pact that offers the viewer with a sensational way of understanding abstraction which they express with much creativity and originality. Here is where you will be able to understand the arts of Yogya through the eyes of the artists from the art centre while appreciating their demonstrations of each unique art form.
Essentially, you will like the exploration of the human psyche from 3 different angles and all the other relations like spirituality, social content and religion. Taking the cue from 3 very exciting artists of our time from the neighbouring country where art and culture is strong and rich will surely offer a rewarding experience for the art lover, enthusiast and collector as well.
